Research Program

My research focuses on the cognitive processes of memory and metamemory. More specifically, I am interested in how people create an accurate internal representation of the external world, both past and present. I am particularly interested in how this process is put under control by mechanisms of metacognition, with a focus on the awareness of intentional forgetting, categorical learning, and performance in the classroom.

My research program is designed to answer these questions: How do we learn information effectively? Can we make ourselves forget that information? Furthermore, do we know that we can engage in complex remembering and intentional forgetting tasks, and does this knowledge influence the decisions we make to achieve task goals?

Below, I have listed three specific lines of research that I am currently pursuing. Click on the heading to read more about each area of interest.
